Design Review Board
The City Council is seeking applications for volunteers to serve on the Design Review Board. This position is for four regular members and one Alternate who attends meetings and participates, but votes only in the absence of another member. Applicants must be a city resident and represent one of the following professions.
- Licensed Architect
- Licensed Landscape Architect
- Urban Planner
- Urban Designer
- Licensed Civil Engineer
- Licensed Contractor
- Graphic design, signage and/or wayfinding professional
The Design Review Board is enabled by the City Council through Title 20, the Missoula Zoning Ordnance. The Board reviews and decides on sign packages, building graphics, and deviations from certain development standards found in the Landscaping, Multi-dwelling Building, and Townhouse Chapters. The Board may also review projects that are subject to Design Excellence review within the newly established Downtown and Corridor Overlays as part of the Design Excellence Program.
The board meets monthly on the second Wednesday of the month. The regular member terms begin January 1, 2020 and ends on December 31, 2022. The Alternate position is completing a term from a former Alternate member, and begins when appointed and ends December 31, 2020.
All individuals who seek an appointment to the DRB should have a demonstrated interest in the design of the community and be motivated by a desire to serve fellow members of the community. Members of the board should be persons who, as a result of their training and experience, are qualified to analyze and interpret architectural and landscape drawings and site plans.

Applicants for the Board will interview with the City Council Land Use and Planning Committee. Applications are due by Wednesday, November 20, 2019 by 5 pm at the City Clerk Office at 435 Ryman, Missoula, MT 59802.
