Missoula’s Long Range Transportation Plan Ready for Community’s Eyes
Public review sought for draft plan before future adoption
 
Missoula’s Long Range Transportation Plan, known as Missoula Connect, has taken shape as a draft plan that is ready for public review. After dozens of community conversations and events, this final outreach phase will be the last opportunity for feedback to be assessed before the plan is finalized and recommended for adoption. The Missoula Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and consultants will be presenting the Missoula Connect draft during the May 6 Transportation Technical Advisory Committee (TTAC) meeting and again, on May 18 at the Transportation Planning Coordinating Committee (TPCC) meeting. The primary public comment period will end on Friday, May 21 but public comments will remain open until the plan is put before TPCC for adoption on June 17.
 
“Planning for transportation improvements is crucial to accommodate Missoula’s growing population,” Missoula MPO, Infrastructure & Mobility Planning Manager, Aaron Wilson, said. “While we are always interested to hear from our community on these planning projects, the month of May will be the last chance to share comments, questions or concerns for our consultants to evaluate before we wrap up this process. Our goal all along has been to develop a plan that is representative of our community’s values. The only way we can ensure that process happens is by hearing from our region’s many diverse voices.”
 
Restrictions posed by COVID-19 mean that community input during the second phase of outreach will be gathered using methods designed to limit public risk. Aside from the TTAC and TPCC committee meetings, the public can stay connected through information made available on the project webpage.
 
About the Missoula Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)
Formed in the early 1980s, the MPO is responsible for planning and programming all federal transportation funds within the Missoula area and is charged with ensuring a coordinated, cooperative approach to addressing our transportation needs. The primary way the MPO does this is through the Long-Range Transportation Plan. The current planning update will look to the next 30 years.
