Open Play at Base Camp!

Bring the kids to socialize and play this winter! Open Play offers self-directed, parent-supervised play at Base Camp, our recreation center in the former public library building. We provide fun sensory items and fine/gross motor play objects for kids to explore and play. All children must have a supervising adult present during play.

Tuesdays are “sensory-aware” days designed to be less overwhelming for individuals who have sensory sensitivities, such as those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD.) We will be turning down/off the music, reducing the number of participants in the building, and dimming/turning off overhead lights.

IMPORTANT: Please review our COVID-19 and mask policies before attending open play:

The CDC and the City-County Health Dept. strongly recommend that children 3 and up wear masks while in indoor public areas. Most of our families have asked us to require masks to keep their kids safe indoors. We also recognize that some families prefer not to wear masks.

To accommodate both groups, we’ve designated Tuesdays and Thursdays as “masks recommended but not required" days. Staff will be masked at all times.

Masks are required Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays as most children are not yet vaccinated.

Parents and children may not attend if they have any COVID-19 symptoms, have been exposed to a person infected with COVID-19, or have been identified as a close contact to a COVID-19 case by MCCHD.

Sorry, no exceptions to our mask policy—please be courteous to our staff. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

Fee:  $5/child. Purchase a punch card for $45 at Base Camp. ALL children must have a supervising adult present during play. No pre-registration necessary.  Open play schedule

Outdoor activities during wildfire season

Parks and Recreation youth programs follow the state Outdoor Activity Guidelines Based on Air Quality for Schools and Child Care Facilities during wildfire season. We modify our activities to find a balance between low-exertion outdoor activities and indoor activities as needed. Questions or concerns? Email us at youthprograms@ci.missoula.mt.us.
