Business Inspection

Plan Review

The Fire Marshal's office reviews all building and development plans for water supply, Fire Department apparatus access (road width and grade), site location, special concerns, and fire protective systems that may be required per the building code.

Underground Cover

Underground pipe inspection must occur prior to covering. All tie rodding, etc. must be complete and coated with bituminous or other acceptable corrosion retarding material. Tie in with Missoula Water and the building is not necessary. Inspection of thrust blocks may occur during or after pouring. Requires 24-hour advanced notice of test.

Underground Hydrostatic Test

All piping and attached appurtenances from curb stop to fire sprinkler system riser flange must be hydrostatically tested at 200 psi or 50 psi in excess of the system working pressure, whichever is greater, and shall maintain that pressure at +/- 5 psi for 2 hours. Underground hydro may be covered if cover inspection has occurred, however, pressure drops must be within allowable limits. Requires 24-hour advanced notice of test.

Underground Flush

Underground piping from the water supply to the fire sprinkler system riser and lead-in connections to the fire sprinkler system riser shall be completely flushed before connection is made to downstream fire protection system plumbing. Requires 24-hour advanced notice of test.

Sprinkler Cover

You must call for cover inspections prior to installation of drywall or tiles that would interfere with visual access. Requires 24-hour advanced notice of test.

Sprinkler System Final

Before a building certificate of occupancy is signed by the Fire Marshal's office a complete fire sprinkler system final must be conducted. This inspection may be conducted in conjunction with the alarm system final in order to test the interrelationship of the two systems. Upon completion of this inspection, providing it passes final inspection, the sprinkler system will be required to remain in service unless other concessions are made with the Fire Marshal's office. Requires 24-hour advanced notice of test.

Fire Alarm

Before a building certificate of occupancy is signed by the Fire Marshal's office a complete fire alarm system test must be conducted. This inspection may be conducted in conjunction with the fire sprinkler system final in order to test the interrelationship of the two systems.

Upon completion of this inspection, providing the test passes final inspection, the system will remain in service with monitoring assigned (where applicable), unless other concessions are made with the Fire Marshal's office. Requires 24-hour advanced notice of test.
