The Missoula Neighborhoods has had a busy start to 2023! In the beginning of February, in conjunction with City Council, the Missoula Neighborhoods office organized our third annual City of Missoula Local Government Academy. The Local Government Academy is a unique and exciting opportunity for Missoula residents to learn about City of Missoula operations and how to engage with local government. We held six sessions in different locations where City departments highlighted their major functions and services while also providing the opportunity for residents to meet City Leadership and City Staff. These sessions were recorded by Missoula Community Access Television! You can watch them here! The final session will be uploaded soon.
If you are interested in being a part of the Local Government Academy next year, please reach out to the Missoula Neighborhoods office (contact@missoula-neighborhoods.org) and we will make sure to reach out before the next Academy begins.
The Neighborhoods Office has also been working through the Fiscal Year 2023 Energize Your Neighborhood Improvement Grants. The Grant Subcommittee, made up of multiple Neighborhood Leadership Teams, scored the projects and have created their final funding recommendations. These grant projects will be approved at the next Community Forum meeting on Thursday, April 27th and then will be approved at the City Council level shortly after. Once the funding is approved, the grant projects will get started. Stay tuned to see if one of these projects are in your neighborhood!
Now that we have (almost) hit Springtime, we are preparing for the annual Spring Neighborhood Clean-Up on Saturday, April 29th. This Clean-Up is a partnership with Parks and Recreation, Garden City Compost, and Republic Services. We are currently working with multiple Neighborhood Leadership Teams to plan an awesome community and environmentally beneficial event. Interested in seeing if your neighborhood is doing a clean-up event? Sign up for your Neighborhood Notify Me list to be first to know!
Lastly, as we approach the summer, be on the lookout for upcoming Neighborhood General Meetings! General Meetings are a great way to meet neighbors, learn about what is happening in your neighborhood, and let the Leadership Team know about issues or projects that you would like them to focus on. Upcoming General Meetings include:
- April 12th: Franklin to the Fort, Franklin Elementary School
- May 9th: Captain John Mullan
- May 10th: Southgate Triangle
